Hangout

The project involved designing an outdoor student area for Çemberlitaş Anadolu Lisesi students and was led by Benek Çinçik and Zeynep Aydemir in the context of Design Build Studio in 2023. The seating unit is located on a site that is situated between the two buildings that are part of the highschool complex. The design has a linear form which is in alignment with the site’s long and narrow spatial characteristics. The design was developed taking the site’s close proximity to highschool’s cafe into consideration which would allow the students to eat their lunch outside together and hang out in a relaxed way during the breaks. The seating unit was designed in a way that enables the students to sit in different positions and on different levels. Since the design consists of a repetition of timber slats in one direction, it not only appears as a permeable and light structure but also creates a dynamic atmosphere as the changing sunlight hits the structure in various ways throughout the day.
