ES

ES was designed and built by the first year students of the MEF University Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture within the scope of Design and Build! studio, between 13-24 June 2023 for Gümüşlük International Music Festival. With the portable amphitheatre design that can be used in both the SUDA and KUMDA stages of the festival, it is aimed for users to experience concerts, and festival atmosphere from different levels. ES, which consists of 9 modules in total, meets the needs of approximately 35 people sitting and listening to concerts simultaneously, while also providing different gathering forms for children, young musicians, and café users when spread out in various configurations.

ES was developed in the architectural language that seeks the spatial equivalents of the 3-dimensional rhythmic relationships of the music notes. ES, which means pause in the note, gives its name to the project with its spatial narrative that allows for a pause (to get caught up in the rhythm of the music, to enjoy the sea and the sun) in the breezy atmosphere of Gümüşlük.

One of the elements emphasised in the design process of the project was the backrests. While designing the backrests, it was intended for them to cast different shadow lengths created by the sunset on the notes in Gümüşlük, which is one of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset, and to welcome guests with this shadow. Additional detachable parts of different sizes, produced in harmony with the recurring rhythmic voids of ES, were created to enhance the concert experience and provide surfaces for placing snacks and drinks.
