Sibel Yasemin Özgan

Assist. Prof. Dr.

Sibel Yasemin Özgan received her Bachelor degree in 2008 and ranked first in her graduating class in the Department of Interior Architecture in Istanbul Technical University. Upon graduation, she worked in several
architectural design offices and started to pursue a master’s degree from the Architectural Design Computing Program in Istanbul Technical University. She studied during the 2010-2011 Spring Semester in the Vienna University of Technology as an Erasmus student and completed her Msc. with a thesis entitled “Use of Augmented reality Technologies in Cultural Heritage Sites: Virtu(re)al Yenikapı“. She tutored undergraduate level design studios and teached some elective courses in Istanbul Technical University, where she worked as a research and teaching assistant in the Department of Interior Architecture between 2012-2018. She studied as a TÜBÄ°TAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) scholar in the Architectural Design Computing Doctoral Degree Program at the Istanbul Technical University. During her PhD studies, she participated in the British Museum’s International Training Program in Summer 2013 and spend an academic year between 2016-2017 as a visiting scholar in Berlin University of Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin) in the Department of Digital and Experimental Design (Digitales und experimentelles Entwerfen). She received her Ph.D. degree in 2018 with a thesis entitled: “Computational Design in the Medieval Seljuk Art: Learning From The Hands-On Creative Traditions Of Geometric Patterns“. She works as an Assist. Prof. at MEF University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture since 2018. Her academic work focuses on diverse subjects in computational design such as visual computation, shape research, material computation and computational making. Her research interest lies in the relation of computation to histories of culture, arts, crafts and architecture as well as the history of computational design thinking.
